I'm glad you're here
I’m Tom Bledsoe, the photographer behind Salty Saba. The name comes from my family—Saba is Hebrew for grandfather—and the work comes largely from the place I now call home: Florida’s Nature Coast.
After more than thirty years as a physician, I began carrying a camera more seriously as a way to slow down, look more carefully, and preserve what might otherwise pass unnoticed. My photographs are rooted in the water, wildlife, boats, people, and changing landscape around Crystal River, with a particular affection for saltwater fly fishing and life along the coast.
I’m drawn to photographs that do more than identify a subject. I want them to convey something of what it felt like to be there—the light before a storm, the stillness of a canal, the concentration on a guide’s face, or the brief moment when a wild animal allows us into its world.
Salty Saba is part portfolio and part visual field journal. Some photographs stand alone. Others become photo essays and stories. The purpose is not to make the Nature Coast look perfect, but to pay attention to it honestly—and to make a record of the people, places, and ordinary moments that matter.
